Delivery Without Drivers or Commission: Uber Direct Couriers Now in OrderPoint

Plenty of cafés and restaurants would love to offer delivery, but hiring drivers isn't worth it, and the delivery apps take a big cut of every order. OrderPoint now connects to Uber Direct, Uber's on-demand courier service for businesses. Customers order on your website, and an Uber courier brings it to them. You pay Uber per delivery, never a commission on the order.

How it works

1. The customer orders on your site. They type their address, pick it from the suggestions, and see the real delivery price before paying.
2. You accept the order. As soon as you mark it Received, OrderPoint books an Uber courier, timed for when the order will be ready.
3. The courier picks it up and delivers it. The status updates on its own: courier on the way, picked up, delivered.
4. The customer can follow along. A tracking link is in their order email, on their order page and in WhatsApp notifications.

You decide what the customer pays

• Uber's price passed straight to the customer (the default).
• Uber's price plus a markup, as a fixed amount or a percentage.
• A flat delivery fee of your choice.
• Free delivery over an amount, to grow the size of the basket.

You can also choose when the courier is booked: when the order is received, when it is being prepared, as soon as it is paid, or only when you press the button yourself.

Why it beats a delivery app

• No commission. The order is placed and paid on your site, so the full amount is yours. Uber charges only for the trip.
• Your customer, your brand. The customer stays on your website and in your customer list, not inside someone else's app.
• No drivers to manage. No hiring, scheduling or idle time on quiet evenings.
• Keep your own drivers too. If you already deliver yourself, your own delivery charges still work, and they are the fallback if a courier isn't available.

How to turn it on

1. Open an Uber Direct account at direct.uber.com. Uber bills you directly for each delivery.
2. In your dashboard, go to Plugins, paste your Uber Direct keys into the Uber Direct card and test the connection.
3. Go to Courier Delivery, save your pickup address and choose your delivery fee and booking rules.

Good to know

• Couriers don't collect cash, so courier delivery is offered when your store takes an online payment, such as Stripe. Cash stays available for pickup.
• Uber Direct is available in Canada and the United States. Your store currency must be the one your Uber account is billed in (CAD or USD). We have tested it end to end in Canada.
• Uber Direct delivery is included in the Standard and Business plans, monthly or yearly.
