Taking Orders on WhatsApp Without the Chaos

For many businesses, especially in North Africa, the Middle East and immigrant communities everywhere, WhatsApp is the ordering channel. Customers send a voice note, a photo of a menu, or "the usual, please". It's personal and it works, until Friday night, when twenty chats arrive at once.

The common problems

  • Orders spread across chats, with no single list of what's pending.
  • Missing details: size, address, pick-up time, allergies.
  • Prices quoted from memory, and mistakes on the total.
  • No record of what was sold, so no idea what's popular.

A better flow: menu first, WhatsApp second

Keep the WhatsApp relationship, but give it structure:

  1. Send a link, not a photo. Reply to new chats with your online menu link. Customers choose items, options and quantities themselves.
  2. Let the order arrive complete. When a customer orders on your site, you get the full order with items, total, customer details and serving method (pick-up, delivery or on table).
  3. Get notified where you already are. OrderPoint can notify you of new orders on WhatsApp, and customers can follow up in the same chat.
  4. Use WhatsApp for what it's best at: confirmations, "your order is ready", and the personal touch.

Quick wins

  • Pin your menu link in your WhatsApp Business profile and set it as your greeting message.
  • Create a quick reply such as "Here's our menu: [link]. Order there and we'll confirm here."
  • Add a WhatsApp chat button to your website so customers can ask questions before ordering.

The result is the same friendly WhatsApp service with fewer mistakes, and every order recorded in one dashboard.
